Government officials in Maharashtra to be at par with corporate executives

The KRA programme aims to analyse the performance of employees and also make them capable of multitasking, like their private-sector counterparts

Around 55,000 state government officials of Maharashtra will undergo training expected to bring them at par with corporate executive, in terms of competency. The Maharashtra Government has included this as part of its Key Result Area (KRA) programme.

The government officers who will participate in this special training programme include fresh Class-I officers as well as bureaucrats nearing the age of 50.

Experts have been hired to train employees in a manner that will change their views and motivate them to perform better.

The month-long residential training programme will be held at the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), in Pune. Here, Class I and II officers of the state government will be trained to enhance their capabilities in planning, coordination, implementation and development.

They will be educated on public administration, management skills, budgetting and finance, human resource utilisation and various laws. They will also develop skills in computer and information technology.

The programme will be mandatory for Mantralaya staff and employees of all state departments, including the Zila Parishad, the Collectorate and the Tehsil office.

Apart from YASHADA, the government training institutes available in each district as well as the headquarters of six revenue commissionerates, will also be used as a facility for residential training.

The government has set up the KRA with an aim to analyse the performance of employees. In fact, post the training programme, these officials will be expected to multi-task as is the norm in the private sector.

Besides, the state government has also decided to conduct annual examinations based on the syllabus, to assess the performance of the trained employees. In case of poor results, the employee(s) will be sent for training once again.
