Cargill India and the Institute of International Education (IIE) have announced the awardees of the 8th edition of the Cargill Global Scholars Programme 2020. The programme provides financial aid to students and aims to promote them for their academic achievements, leadership potential and study in food, agriculture and risk management. In India, 10 scholarships are being awarded this academic year, to students from leading science and technology institutions — Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Delhi and Gandhinagar, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru and Lady Shri Ram College for Women. The students selected for the two-year scholarship programme will receive scholarship funds of US$2,500 a year for up to two years.
Cargill Global Scholars programme is designed for undergraduate students across six countries including India, Brazil, China, Russia, Indonesia and the US. Under the programme, students are offered experiential learning modules, including leadership development training, coupled with counselling from Cargill leaders. Students also gain valuable opportunities to observe and learn from business and community leaders in their own countries.
The programme will onboard three new reputed institutions this year — ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal for their BTech. (dairy technology) programme, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana for their BTech. (food technology) programme and University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru for BTech (Ag.Engg) and BTech (food tech) programmes. Students selected from these institutions will be awarded scholarships in 2021, in the form of financial aid as well as leadership-development opportunities.
Raj Karunakaran, HR Head, Cargill India, shares that the Cargill Global Scholarship Programme not only identifies top talent, but gives students the opportunity “to hone tech and business acumen at a time when talent risk is one of the most significant challenges to businesses.”
Vivek Mansukhani, head, Institute of International Education (IIE), India points out that “the opportunities offered by this value-creating programme enable potential young future leaders to acquire knowledge, skills and perspectives through one-on-one mentoring and various group learning modules.” The selected students get a chance to connect with “peers from around the world”, which ensures development of cross-cultural skills.
In the past seven years, over 430 students globally from over 65 universities have benefitted from the global programme, including 70 students from India.
