Mukherjee looks at a larger role in his next endeavour.
Chandrashekhar Mukherjee, chief people officer, National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), has put down his papers. Mukherjee confirmed his decision to HRKatha, sharing that June 5 will be his last working day with the firm.
Mukherjee, a veteran HR leader with more than two decades of experience, is set to take up a larger role soon after leaving NSE. He says, “With a much larger opportunity in hand, I have decided to move on.”
In his stint of more than seven years at NSE, Mukherjee has been responsible for the corporate human resource function for NSE and its group companies. Before joining NSE, he was associate vice president, HR, and branch head, Mumbai at Bennett Coleman & Company, Times of India Group. He has also worked with Cabot India, Colgate-Palmolive India and Usha India in the past.
During his stint at NSE, he introduced various significant initiatives that brought the company into the limelight as one of the best places to work in in the financial sector. NSE is the only company in the BFSI that won the CII Business Excellence award not just once but twice — in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
Since he joined NSE in 2010, Mukherjee has been instrumental in designing and implementing some interesting people practices in the areas of talent management, learning and development and employee engagement. He introduced the capability index, flexibility index, training effectiveness model and a dual rating system for the annual PMS.
The dual rating system includes – performance rating for the annual bonus payout, which is a relaxed bell curve; and potential rating based on the development centre results and performance rating, that is, all employees plotted on the 9 PP Grid. Annual increments and promotions are based on the potential rating.
Mukherjee says, “It has been a wonderful journey with NSE and having won the CII award in the last few years is a testament to the remarkable work done. We also did some benchmarking exercises in addition to measuring training effectiveness and RoI.”
Mukherjee, a commerce graduate from the University of Allahabad, pursued his post graduation in human resources from Institute of Engineering & Rural Technology. He is set to join his next company on June 8 and further details on his new role will be out soon.

Chandra has been an excellent People Person…I had good fortune of working with him at Times Group and later remained connected .. !
His contribution at Times Group HR was quite significant and he managed some critical transitions very successfully !
He will surely be a bigger success and greater glory will follow him while he discovers his best at the new assignment!
