Qatar has introduced a new dress code for employees across ministries, government agencies and public bodies during work hours and official events. The decision is outlined in Circular No. 13 for 2024 issued by Qatar’s Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, as reported by The Peninsula.
New dress code requires Qatari male employees to wear the traditional Qatari thobe, ghutra and egal, with attire colours varying by time of day: white in the morning, blonde at midday, and black in the evening. The winter bisht is appropriate from 1 December to 1 April. Furthermore, all the non-Qatari employees are required to wear a full formal dark-coloured suit with a matching shirt and tie.
As per the new dress code, Qatari female employees must wear traditional Qatari attire, including an abaya and peoper head covering. Non-Qatari female employees are required to wear appropriate women’s work suits suited to the work environment, with restrictions against short, tight clothing, bright colours, and inappropriate makeup.
In general, sports shoes are strictly prohibited unless medically necessary and clothing should be opaque, not tight, and free of chains or logos. Employees are also advised to avoid inappropriate hairstyles.
