Members of the Bandhan Employees’ Welfare Trust had been seeking legal intervention to address alleged violations of their rights. They had intensified their protest against Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, founder, Bandhan, and the Trust’s management. Meanwhile, the Bandhan Employees Welfare Trust has engaged with the agitated members of the Trust multiple times over the last few weeks. The Trust is in the process of filing an application before the High Court for the resolution of the issue.
Members of the Trust had alleged possible misappropriation of funds, claiming that Ghosh’s family may be improperly benefiting from the Trust’s resources. Additionally, they are frustrated by the lack of transparency and disclosure, as repeated requests for access to accounts and interviews with key figures have been ignored.
The Trust maintains that neither Ghosh nor any of his family members are part of the Trust, and therefore, they cannot be linked to any financial irregularities, and that Ghosh’s name is being used to sensationalise the issue.
Another major issue that was brought to the forefront was the absence of annual general meetings between 2008 and 2023, which the members see as a severe governance lapse. Feeling their rights have been violated and being unable to resolve their grievances through dialogue, the members are seeking legal intervention from the Calcutta High Court, with support from the Bongo Bhashi Mahasabha Foundation, an organisation dedicated to promoting Bengali culture and protecting rights.
The Foundation sent a letter addressed to Trust chairman Ronendra Chowdhury and Ghosh on behalf of the agitating members. The letters stated that despite repeated requests for transparency and access to the Trust’s accounts, there has been no response, cooperation or disclosure. However, the Trust dismissed these allegations as motivated. It also revealed that the process is on to fill an application before the High Court for resolution.

The faith and goodwill which Bandhan Bank has acquired by dint of perseverance and honesty by former CEO and MD Sri CS Ghosh, under any circumstances that area should be looked into by the present Management. Many customers have switched over their accounts from other banks to Bandhan keeping firm belief on Bandhan Bank. Hence , this area shouldn’t be ignored.
