The management of the Press Trust of India released a statement following the lay-off of 297 non-journalist staff. The statement clarified that no journalists were impacted by the lay-off, and those who were laid off were compensated with substantial financial packages. As per the statement, compensation for 147 attenders, 80 employees from the transmission department, and 70 from the engineering department is based on the guidelines of the Industrial Disputes Act 1947. The State Commission for Backward Classes has begun the process to make reservation available to the people who reside in the villages near the international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir. The Employees’ Profident Fund Office (EPFO) is considering making long-term investments in stocks for a period of five to 10 years, in a bid to ensure better returns for its subscribers. A panel has recommended that instead of short-term investments for about three years, the EPFO should make investments in the exchange traded funds (ETF), which is an equity-linked scheme, for five to 10 years so as to obtain greater returns.
