Tata Electronics is set to significantly expand its workforce at its iPhone assembly plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The company plans to add 20,000 additional employees this time.
This expansion will double the current workforce to 40,000 employees. The announcement was made during a groundbreaking event for Tata Motors and JLR’s new Rs 9,000 crore manufacturing plant in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.
The Tata Group, which already employs over 1,50,000 people across Tamil Nadu through subsidiaries like TCS, Titan, and Tata Power, continues to strengthen its presence in the region. At the Hosur facility, more than 15,000 of the existing 20,000 employees are women, and the workforce is expected to double within a year, offering more employment opportunities in the area.
This expansion is expected to create not only direct jobs at the plant but also generate indirect employment across Tata’s ecosystem. In addition, Tata Motors and JLR will collaborate on a new vehicle platform at the Panapakkam plant, which is projected to create 5,000 direct jobs and additional employment through related industries.
The Tata Group has also committed Rs 2,200 crore to upgrade the state’s industrial training institutes, aiming to equip local youth with the necessary skills to support the growing manufacturing sector.
