Ubisoft restructures operations; mandates full RTO

As part of the reset, Ubisoft is scaling back its development slate to concentrate resources on fewer, more strategically- aligned titles

French video game publisher, Ubisoft has announced a sweeping internal restructuring as it looks to sharpen its focus and improve efficiency in an increasingly competitive AAA gaming market. The overhaul includes the cancellation of several projects, changes to its operating model, and a company-wide return to office-based work.

As part of the reset, Ubisoft is scaling back its development slate to concentrate resources on fewer, more strategically aligned titles. Among the cancelled projects is the long-delayed _Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake_. The company has also scrapped three unannounced new intellectual properties and one mobile game, signalling a clear shift away from spreading investments across a wide range of experiments.

The restructuring will also involve the shutdown of select studios and internal realignments across teams. Ubisoft has indicated that these steps are necessary to simplify decision-making, reduce complexity, and create a more disciplined development pipeline. The move comes as large game publishers face rising production costs, longer development cycles, and more cautious consumer spending.

A significant change for employees accompanies the structural overhaul. Ubisoft plans to transition all teams back to working on-site five days a week. While limited work-from-home flexibility will remain through an annual allowance of remote days, regular weekly remote or hybrid schedules will no longer be the norm.

The company believes that consistent in-person presence is essential to support its new operating model. Management sees physical proximity as a way to strengthen collaboration, speed up communication, and improve coordination across studios and functions. Ubisoft has positioned this shift as critical to boosting collective efficiency and creativity in a market that is becoming more selective and performance-driven.

The changes reflect a broader reassessment underway at Ubisoft as it adapts to evolving industry dynamics. By narrowing its project focus and reshaping how teams work together, the company is aiming to stabilise operations and build a more sustainable foundation for long-term growth.
