With over 30 years of experience backing her, Charulatha S Kar has been elevated to the position of executive director, Reserve Bank of India (RBI). She was earlier serving as the chief general manager-in-charge, in RBI’s human resource department.
Kar’s association with RBI is not recent. In fact, she has earlier worked in the areas of payment and settlement systems, information technology, government banking, internal accounts and human resource management at the Reserve Bank.
She has represented RBI in various working groups of BIS and has also been a member of other internal and external committees.
In her new assignment as executive director, Kar will head the department of communication, oversee the human resource management department and serve as the Right to Information (First Appellate Authority).
Her promotion comes into effect from 1 July, 2024.
A post-graduate in commerce from the University of Mumbai, Charulatha Kar holds a diploma in treasury and forex management. She is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF).
Kar is not the only one to be promoted to executive director. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has promoted Arnab Kumar Chowdhury also as executive director. He will be overseeing the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), foreign exchange department, as well as the international department A chartered accountant with a master’s degree in economics, Arnab Kumar Chowdhury is also a certified associate of IIBF. Like Kar, he too has been associated with RBI for over three decades.
